All the participating countries of the ICC World Cup Cricket 2011 have been allotted two warm-up matches each before the start of the tournament. These warm-up matches are to be played amongst the participating teams from different groups.

India which is in Group B have been given two practice games against two teams from Group A. On 13th February, India will take on Australia. And on 16th February, India will face New Zealand in its second and last warm-up match.

While technically this match counts for nothing (it is only an unofficial one day international), however it will be the last chance for both India and New Zealand to sort out their team before the business begins in this World Cup.

The idea for the captains Dhoni and Vettori would be try to give each one of their 15 team members a chance during these two warm-up matches. Even though, for example, it may appear that Piyush Chawla won’t get a game, but one can never be sure. On wickets which are going to offer a lot of assistance to spinners, it may not be a bad idea to play an extra spinner in place of a bowler.

Thus this India vs New Zealand warm-up match becomes important. So don’t miss the live telecast of this match on Star Cricket on 16th February.

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match (New Zealand Tour of India 2010)

Match Summary: thus far ( close to end of play on day 1 of the test)

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori won the toss in the morning and elected to bat first on what looked like a hard wicket, conducive to batting. Remember that this is the first ever time that the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad is hosting a test match, so the decision did involve a bit of risk because new wickets tend to behave funny at times.

Vettori may have been worried immediately because the first wicket fell early on. Brendon McCullum who had looked good in the first test fell with the score reading just 4, both against his name and the team’s. However, McIntosh, the other opener who had completely failed in the 1st test then hung on with Martin Guptill who was the aggressor of the two. The duo took New Zealand past 150 and it was on 151 that Guptill fell to a dubious umpiring decision.

Since then they have progressed to 236/3. The Kiwis are looking good at the moment, and if the behaviour of the wicket on the first day of this India - New Zealand test is any indicator, then this match looks headed for a draw. But din’t the last game suddenly come alive in the last phase? So hang on, watch the live cricket, enjoy. In cricket, anything is possible.

Live Cricket Streaming | India vs NewZealand | 2nd One Day

]

India completely outclassed the home team in the rain-shortened 1st One Day Iternational on the 3rd March at Napier. That the twenty20 failures were more of an abberation that anything else was amply proved in the 1st One Day where New Zealand were comprehensively beaten. Especially visible was the vast chasm between the batting talents of the two teams.  The shorter twenty20 matches didn’t allow the Indian batsmen who had just reached New Zealand any time to settle down. Here players like Dhoni had the time to play around, get settled before playing their shots. If you were watching the live streaming of the match or the live telecast of the match on TV, you would know what i mean - for a good inital part of his innings, Dhoni was just collecting singles and his strike rate was hovering around the 60 mark. However by the end of his innings, he was striking at near 100!

However, if you are ruling out New Zealand this early, it is at your own peril. Daniel Vettori is a great captain - I definitely rate him as the best captain in cricket today, yes even higher than Dhoni. He may not have a better team, but Vettori is a great tactician and he is on his home turf. A win tomorrow and New Zealand will be back in the series.

You can share your live cricket streaming stuff - cricket sopcasts/webcasts/oox and all in the response area after this post. Live Telecast of the India New Zealand 2nd one day at Wellington can be viewed on Set Max from 6:30 am.

Live Cricket Streaming | India vs New Zealand | 2nd T20 Match

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

India were effectively outplayed by the home team in the first twenty20 match of the series at Christchurch. If you watched the match live, it was unbelievable how the Indian batting collapsed after the way they started.

Well, that was that. Wellington, the Kiwi Capital will host the India vs New Zealand 2nd Twenty20 Match tomorrow. One can expect that the Indian team will have learnt from its mistakes in the first match, and put up a better performance tomorrow. They will also have been better acclimatised by now to the New Zealand conditions, and that should help.

The New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori put in a brilliant display with the ball and was easily the best bowler of the match from either side. The Indian offie Harbhajan Singh also bowled very well. Both bowled quick and flat, making it that much more difficult to play shots. That may prompt India to rethink its team combination, though I don’t think it will ultimately happen.

Third Seamer problem should be sorted in New Zealand

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Former India pacer and one of my favourite cricket players, Javagal Srinath thinks that one of the important areas that India need to sort out on their tour of New Zealand is the third seamer. While hailing India’s opening pair of bowlers as the best in world cricket today, Srinath added that the third seamer has been a problem area for Indian cricket with any number of bowlers walking in and out of that slot.

The former India spearhead thinks that Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma have been doing a fabulous job for the team, inconsistenct performances by the third partner means that the two leading bowlers are being forced to take undue load. That will mean the two bowlers tiring out early.

While in the short term that has an immediate bearing on the current match, extra load also means greater chances of injury being caused to these bowlers, who are vital to the success of the team. Let’s hope that the team management will be able to sort out this issue during the tour of New Zealand.

The first India vs New Zealand match is on the 25th February. We will keep you updated here with the live cricket from the series, and also with info on live cricket streaming for the India - Newzealand series.

India tour of New Zealand extended - 1 extra test and T20

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Only the BCCI could have had the gall to do this.  For years players had been cribbing about the fact that the BCCI put in place only one tour game on overseas cricket tours - now the BCCI has gone a step further, on India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand they have scrapped that one practise game too!

At the expense of that fixture, India will now play an extra test and an extra T20 game. Of course, the cancelled tour to Pakistan has allowed the Indian cricket team considerable breathing space, and they are now slated to arrive in New Zealand at least a week earlier than planned. India will now reach New Zealand on 20th February and play their first match - a T20 match vs New Zealand on Feb 25th at Christchurch.

Napier will hold the extra test.
